Destination Schools
At Handcross Park, our Year 8 pupils transition to a variety of top independent senior schools both in the county and beyond.
The teaching staff at Handcross Park have extensive knowledge of a great number of senior schools and a deep understanding of each pupil’s strengths and talents. This enables our team to support parents with the decision of choosing the right senior school that will enable their child to thrive and flourish. The process starts in Year 4 when parents are given a written guide to senior school entrance (Year 9), which details visits, registration and assessment procedures for our destination schools. The Headmaster and Director of Studies then meet with every parent or guardian in Year 5 to discuss future schools.
The single most important criterion is: Which school will be right for your child?
This process focuses on three areas:
- The ability and potential of the child
- Parental priorities
- The advice and experience from Handcross Park
The majority of senior schools are now using ISEB pre-test assessment in Year 6 for their selection process for places in Year 9. Handcross Park prepares our pupils for this pre-test in Years 5 and 6.
Pupils in Year 7 and 8 work towards Common Entrance or Academic Scholarship exams. We have a 100% success rate for Common Entrance passes, enabling pupils to gain a place at their choice of senior school.
More than half of the school's Year 8 pupils gain scholarships to Brighton College and other top senior schools
